Stock Yards Bank is excited to welcome John Fidler as Chief Investment Officer to our newly expanded senior leadership team.
John joined Stock Yards in 2022 as part of our merger with Commonwealth Bank & Trust, where he served as Director of Alternative Investments. He is now responsible for developing investment strategies and asset allocation for high-net-worth and institutional client assets. He leads Stock Yards Bank & Trust’s investment team, and is responsible for security selection, investment strategy, and external manager selection. John and his team provide financial planning, investment management, retirement planning, and trust and estate services.
The secret to his drive for success? He says, “The markets are an endless intellectual challenge,” and working in investments keeps him ever engaged. “There is always something new to learn, and nothing is more rewarding on a human level than leveraging my work to help clients build and protect their wealth.”
John stays up to date on industry news by frequently checking sources like The Financial Times and The Wall Street Journal, and he swears by a properly curated Twitter feed. For John, there is no better alternative than face-to-face chats that he enjoys with his industry contacts and clients. “I prefer meeting with people in person, but email is always a good way to reach me,” he says.
Growing up in Baltimore, Maryland, John graduated from Washington & Lee University in Virginia. He studied abroad in Hong Kong and worked in London early in his career. Through those experiences, John developed a comprehensive worldview that gave him valuable context to the growing global economic market. After a stint in New York City, he settled into the Louisville area in 2005 with his wife, Erin, of 16 years and their three sons.
In his free time, you can find John coaching his son’s youth sports teams and visiting family in Florida and California. You can catch him listening to a live recording of The Grateful Dead (or any Pavement record for that matter) or watching a Baltimore Ravens game or his favorite movie— Chinatown, the 1974 film noir classic starring Jack Nicholson.
John is involved in Grace Anglican Church and wears many hats as a supportive parent at his children's schools. He is actively involved with Pillar Support, an organization with a mission to provide support to people with disabilities by promoting opportunity, choice, and connection to the community. John shares in Pillar’s CHOICE values of compassion, humble service, opportunity, integrity, collaboration and excellence.
We are honored to have John on our team and look forward to the many ways he will continue to serve our clients.
