Dear Clients, Partners, and Friends,

As we embark on a new year, we reflect on the challenges and opportunities that have shaped the global landscape, with an eye toward how these dynamics will continue to evolve. The past quarter has been marked by a period of uncertainty, driven by geopolitical tensions, inflationary pressures, and notably, the “Liberation Day” tariffs announced on April 2, 2025. These tariffs introduced significant economic and market disruption, heightening recession risk, and contributing to the bear market environment. However, our outlook remains favorable for investors with long-term horizons who stay disciplined and strategic in their approach.

At Stock Yards Wealth Management, our mission is to provide you with insightful strategies that navigate these turbulent times while staying focused on your goals. Our team of experts has been diligent in evaluating market conditions, economic trends, and the implications of these tariffs. While they pose risks for a more severe downturn, we believe that with careful management, these challenges can be transformed into opportunities for those prepared to weather short-term storms.

Our Chief Investment Officer, John Fidler, in this issue, provides a detailed analysis of how the current market conditions, including the potential for continued volatility due to the trade policy, might shape economic outcomes. His insights emphasize that strategic planning, patience, and a diversified approach are crucial. The key is to remain agile, adapt to changing conditions, and look for opportunities that arise even within a bear market environment.

In our quest to offer comprehensive services, our Senior Financial Planner, Jason Hamilton, explores how to fortify financial plans against the backdrop of economic variability, particularly with the added market pressures we have seen this year. The focus is on resilience - ensuring that your financial goals remain on track, whether it’s through revising investment strategies to mitigate risk, enhancing cash flow management to deal with economic downturns, or optimizing tax planning. Jason’s article delves into practical steps for adapting your financial plan to not just survive but potentially thrive, even in a challenging economic environment.

For those focused on preserving wealth across generations, estate and succession planning are more critical than ever in light of economic policy shifts like these tariffs. Anticipated changes in tax laws, shifting estate planning strategies, and the evolving nature of family dynamics all play a significant role in how we approach wealth transfer. Our Trust Counsel, Sean Mumaw, is closely monitoring these factors and will provide updates on the latest developments to ensure your legacy remains intact.

At the heart of our firm are the dedicated professionals who work tirelessly on behalf of our clients. In this quarter’s Advisor Spotlight, we highlight our esteemed team members in our Lexington-Central Kentucky market, Selina Shephard, Chad Rudzik, and Greg Watkins, whose commitments to excellence and client service exemplify the values we hold dear. It is our people who make the difference, and we are proud of the deep expertise and unwavering dedication they bring to our clients every day.

As we look ahead to the remainder of 2025, despite economic and market volatility, we maintain an optimistic view for the long term. While the immediate future might present challenges, we believe that clients who remain disciplined, patient, and focused on long-term wealth creation will be well-positioned to take advantage of the recovery and growth that follow economic downturns.

We appreciate the trust you place in us and look forward to continuing our partnership as we navigate through 2025 and beyond.

Warm regards,

Shannon B. Budnick, CTFA, CFP®
